1 · Acceptance

By using hootansal.ca you agree to these terms. If you do not, please stop using the site.

2 · The site is informational only

Everything on hootansal.ca — essays, financial illustration tools, descriptions of services — is for general information. It does not constitute financial, tax, legal, insurance, or accounting advice. Reading an article or running a calculator does not create an advisor–client relationship with Hootan Sal Financial Planning.

If you want advice tailored to your situation, contact Hootan directly to discuss an engagement. Until a written engagement letter is signed, no advisor–client relationship exists.

3 · Financial illustration tools

The site hosts interactive tools (e.g. “Second Property vs. PAR Life Insurance”) that calculate hypothetical financial outcomes based on the assumptions and inputs you provide.

You acknowledge that:

• Tool results are illustrative, not predictive. Real-world outcomes will differ.
• Each tool uses simplifying assumptions about tax law, market returns, and product mechanics. The assumptions are listed in the tool.
• Tax law, regulatory rules, and product features change. Results based on today's rules may not apply to your situation when you act.
• The numbers you enter into a tool are stored only in your browser, not on our servers. See the privacy policy for detail.

Use the tools to think through scenarios — not to make a decision without professional advice.

4 · No advisor–client relationship by use

Submitting a form, subscribing to the email list, registering for an event, or running a tool does not establish an advisor–client relationship. That relationship arises only when you and Hootan Sal Financial Planning have signed a written engagement letter describing the scope of work and the fees (if any).

Until that engagement letter is signed, do not act on anything you read here as if it were advice tailored to your specific situation.

5 · Intellectual property

All content on hootansal.ca — essays, illustrations, the design system, calculator logic, and underlying source — is owned by Hootan Sal Financial Planning unless otherwise credited.

You may:

• Read and share links to public pages.
• Quote short excerpts with attribution.
• Use the tools for your own personal planning.

You may not:

• Republish whole articles or pages.
• Scrape the site for AI training, data aggregation, or competing services.
• Use the content commercially without written permission.

6 · Acceptable use

When using the site, you agree not to:

• Probe for vulnerabilities or attempt unauthorised access.
• Submit false, stolen, or third-party information through any form.
• Send automated traffic without prior written agreement.
• Interfere with the site's operation or another visitor's use of it.

We may block any visitor who violates these terms.

7 · No warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do everything reasonable to keep it accurate and online, but:

• We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.
• We do not warrant that information is current with the latest changes in law or market conditions.
• We do not warrant that third-party services the site links to (Calendly, Google, Postmark, Vercel, Supabase) will be available.

Use of the site is at your own risk.

8 · Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• Hootan Sal Financial Planning and Hootan Salajegheh are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site.
• Our total liability for any claim related to the site is limited to the amount (if any) you have paid us for use of the site. The site is free; this means that limit is zero.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud or for losses that cannot lawfully be excluded under Canadian law.

9 · Third-party services

The site links to and uses third-party services (Calendly for meeting booking, Google Analytics, Vercel for hosting, Postmark for email, Supabase for database). We do not control them. Your use of them is governed by their own terms, not ours.

10 · Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11 · Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada. You agree that any dispute will be decided by the courts of Ontario.
